Electrical Energy, Book Clubs, and Pie in the Face Time!

 Well, there you have it! 

The Kipling Community did an amazing job donating food for the Deerfield Food Pantry!

I'm just glad that I now have the whipped cream smell out of my nostrils!


Congratulations to our Kindness and Grit Award recipients!


We are really getting into our book club books!

As we read, we are working on making sure we understand what we read, noting interesting/new words, and completing check-ins to help with comprehension. We will use these check-ins to fuel our conversations for our book club talks next week!


We read a text about a scientist who helped bring awareness to the CFC's damage to the ozone layer.

We had an AMAZING discussion on different text structures within the text. 
My heart was overflowing with pride!
Way to go, Cacioppo Crew!








In science, we worked in teams to make fans and buzzers work using lamps, mini solar panels, and batteries.




Earlier in the week, we were given some supplies and a challenge to work together to make the light turn on with the switch.

Cacioppo Crew  Getting ready for Open House 2025!!! We explored some different math activities. This game required us to roll dice, add the numbers, then multiply by a specific number. The goal was to get 6 in a row! We used our brainstorming web to help us elaborate on details about ourselves for our self-portrait writing. We talked about how we can use tools to organize our ideas and to help us elaborate. Me Bag Time! The kids were asked to bring in a few items from home to share with the class  so we can learn more about one another and build connections. Morning Break FUN! Book Clubs, Earthquake/Volcano Hazards, Related Numbers, and MORE!

    Earlier in the week, we worked on identifying the central idea of a section of text.  We learned that the central idea is what the text is mostly about. We also worked to identify 3 examples from the text to support that central idea.  We dove into our next Book Club Books! We will use these books to help us work on identifying how a character changes and point of view! Mr. Wu's Shop of Curiosities Benito's Goal To Stand Forever We learned how to play a new game called "Related Numbers." We had to find factors for a given number. We used the numbers we selected to add to our score. We worked with partners to determine the Author's Purpose in the story Flora and Ulysses. In Science, we learned about volcanic and earthquake hazards. We will be taking this information to help us construct a building that can withstand a small earthquake! Happy First Day of School!

 I forgot to take a group picture. Ugh! I will get one tomorrow and share with families. Check out our first day of school (out of order pics)! Meet the 4th Grade Team: Mrs. Johnson, Mr. McCulloch, Mrs. Kraus, and Mrs. C We listened to the story First Day Jitters before dismissal. We wrote down 3 things about ourselves on a sheet of paper and had a snowball fight. We read the 3 clues and had to guess who it was in our class! Morning break fun with the rest of 4th grade.
