State Presentations, UNITY DAY, and Fractions

We presented our State Research Projects to the class. We will finish up our presentations tomorrow. UNITY Day! We worked with a partner to create different types of whole pizzas using the given fractions for the ingredients.  Congratulations to our Kindness and Grit award recipients!  

Regions, Buddies, and Thinking Classroom!

 Region Presentations The final groups presented their region information to the class.  The projects were posted on Seesaw. Be sure to check them out! We used our fraction cubes to help us determine equivalent fractions. The kids are doing a fantastic job showing their thinking with fraction strips, number lines, and numbers/words. Way to go! Buddies! We had fun doing a fall activity with our first grade buddies. More pictures will be posted soon. Thinking Classroom Activity: My heart is full after completing this activity with the class. I am so proud of them for working together to solve these math challenges. Dr. Lombardo and Mrs. Primack came down to check out our activity! In our feedback form, several students commented on how they liked the challenge and that it was hard, liked working with other kids, and liked trying different strategies.  For the challenging part, they noted that it was hard and that they didn't like having to start over to solve. Regions Research and Presentations plus Katherine Applegate Author Visit!

 Region Research! This week we gathered information on our region.  We learned what natural resources, what large cities, what outdoor activities people can enjoy, and what agricultural products are located in our region.  We had a virtual author visit with Katherine Applegate. https://katherineapplegate.com/ She shared with us her inspiration for her story "Pocket Bear." Maps, Figurative Language, and Equivalent Fractions!

Our leader of the week is sharing his poster with the class! We finished up our science presentations. Our leader of the week shared a magic trick with the class! We are identifying text structures within our informations book club books. We are working on adding key details and evidence to support. In our reading lesson, we are learning how to identify different types of figurative language in the text. It is a beautiful day for a beautiful day! The weather has been perfect for our morning breaks. Congratulatiuons to our kindness and grit award recipients! In Social Studies, we are learning how to use different types of maps to get information and make inferences about different regions in the United States. Friday is our check out day in the library.
